Denise Mariani is Chair of the Nursing Home Negligence practice at Stark & Stark, focusing her advocacy skills and experience to protecting the rights of our elderly population and holding accountable those who cause harm to them. Denise is also an expert Civil Trial Attorney, having been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey since 2004.
For over 30 years, Denise represents individuals and families whose loved ones have suffered serious injuries or died because of neglect or abuse in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, group homes, and hospitals. Her work is deeply personal, with her mother residing in an assisted living facility, Denise has firsthand experience navigating the challenges families face when entrusting a loved one’s care to others. Through her mother’s experience with Alzheimer’s Dementia, Denise understands the pain, uncertainty, and emotional toll these conditions can have on both individuals and their families. She knows the dignity, patience, attentiveness, and compassion that vulnerable residents deserve, and the devastation families feel when that standard of care is not met. This personal perspective strengthens Denise’s advocacy and helps her guide clients with both empathy and a determined commitment to accountability.
A Trenton native, Denise is committed to serving her community both inside and outside the courtroom. She is a founding Board Member of I Believe in Pink, a nonprofit that raises funds to assist breast cancer patients facing financial hardship in Mercer County and surrounding communities. She also serves on the Board of the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business Alliance, which supports women’s professional development, collaboration with business and community leaders, and advocacy on women’s issues, including through the New Jersey Conference for Women.
Denise helps lead, train, and teach fellow attorneys, sharing her trial experience and commitment to advancing the practice of civil litigation. She recently participated as amicus curiae in the New Jersey Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Keyworth v. CareOne, contributing to an important matter before the state’s highest court. Denise has long been deeply involved with the Mercer County Bar Association and is a past president. She is also active in the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice, where she serves on the Civil Trial Bar Committee, and with the New Jersey Association for Justice.
Before joining Stark & Stark, Denise served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Paul T. Koenig and the Honorable Linda R. Feinberg of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division–Family Part. She also served as a certified legal intern with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office in Trenton and the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
