Essure is essentially a small metal spring that is embedded in a patient’s fallopian tubes, to prevent pregnancy. Since its approval in 2002, Bayer, and its subsidiary Conceptus, have produced hundreds of thousands of Essure devices.
Based on thousands of patient complaints, the FDA required a clinical study of Essure, which resulted in a 2016 “black box” warning, as well as a specific pre-implantation acknowledgment signed by each patient, being required for the device. Essure has been removed from several international markets and domestic sales of Essure have been largely discontinued.
Since its introduction, there have been numerous reports of allergic reaction, pain, bleeding, fracture or migration of the Essure, perforation caused by the Essure, pregnancy or pregnancy complications, and, in some instances, death.
Thousands of claims against the makers of Essure have been consolidated in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the state courts of California and Missouri.
Stark & Stark’s Mass Tort team pursues claims against medical device manufacturers so they can be held liable when the products they market are proven to be defective and cause injury to the people who use them.
Our Essure lawsuit lawyers are experienced in mass tort cases and in negotiating with pharmaceutical settlement representatives. If you or a member of your family has suffered an injury from Essure implantation, you may be entitled to compensation.
Please contact Stark & Stark to speak with one of the Essure attorneys, free of charge, who can help assess any claims that you may have and to help you understand the settlement and lawsuit process.
