    What are Incretin Mimetics?

These drugs work by mimicking the incretin hormones that the body usually produces naturally to stimulate the release of insulin in response to a meal. They are used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. They include:

    • Byetta (Exenatide), developed and manufactured by Amylin Pharmaceuticals in association with Eli Lilly and Co., is an injectable treatment that entered the market in 2005.
    • Januvia/Janumet (Sitagliptin), developed and manufactured by Merck & Co., is an oral treatment that entered the market in 2006.
    • Victoza (Liraglutide), developed and manufactured by Novo Nordisk, is an injectable treatment that entered the market in 2010.

What Side Effects Are Associated with Taking Byetta, Januvia/Janumet or Victoza?

Numerous studies have shown that there may be a statistically significant increased risk of pancreatic cancer associated with the use of certain incretin mimetics.

Why Are Lawsuits Being Filed Against The Manufacturers Of Byetta, Januvia/Janumet or Victoza?

Despite these studies, and the seriousness of an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in patients, drugmakers continue to market Byetta, Januvia/Janumet and Victoza throughout the U.S. Accordingly, more than a thousand lawsuits have been filed across the country alleging that the drugmakers knew, or should have known, about these side effects, but failed to adequately warn prescribers and patients of the risks. Most of these lawsuits were consolidated in the Multi-District Litigation (MDL), before Judge Anthony J. Battaglia, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. After initially being dismissed on a technicality, the MDL lawsuits were recently reinstated by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Are you impacted by the Byetta, Januvia/Janumet and Victoza lawsuits? You may be entitled to compensation.

If you or a loved one has taken Byetta, Januvia/Janumet or Victoza and believe you have suffered any injury, it is strongly recommended you speak with your physician. If you or a loved one has taken Byetta, Januvia/Janumet or Victoza and have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, it is strongly recommended that you also seek counsel experienced in the Byetta, Januvia/Janumet and Victoza lawsuits claims and injuries.

Stark & Stark’s defective drug attorneys are actively seeking Byetta, Januvia/Janumet and Victoza lawsuits and settlement options for those injured from these potentially defective drugs.
