Stark & Stark is proud to announce that Evan Lide, Esq., has secured a $1,204,029 verdict on behalf of a disabled Army veteran who sustained serious injury resulting from a defective electrical grounding system in the home he rented in Mercer County.*
Our investigation revealed that the landlord failed to maintain the rental property at issue, and admitted that she had never inspected the property to confirm it was safe for tenants. Through her neglect, she allowed the grounding system to deteriorate to the point of disintegration. Furthermore, the defendant landlord had never registered the rental unit with the Township of Hopewell, which would have generated a safety inspection as well each time the property was rented to a new tenant. The incident left the client with life-altering injuries and required extensive medical intervention.
“This verdict wasn’t just about money—it was about honoring a disabled Army veteran’s sacrifice and holding a landlord accountable for preventable harm,” said Lide. “Our client signed up and fought for his country. The defendants fought to destroy his character—labeling him a liar and a faker and serving him with eviction papers while he lay in a medically induced coma. For a veteran, honor is everything. This verdict is about more than compensation; it’s about restoring that honor.”
Evan is a member of the firm’s Accident & Personal Injury Group, focuses his practice on complex injury matters arising from unsafe premises, defective infrastructure, and other serious incidents across New Jersey. He is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney.
