Evan Lide, Esq. recently traveled to the New Jersey State House to testify in support of Bill S3928, a groundbreaking piece of legislation aimed at limiting the use of arbitration clauses in certain consumer contracts. The bill, which seeks to provide greater protection to consumers, has gained significant momentum thanks to the efforts of Stark & Stark attorneys, who have been at the forefront of challenging unfair arbitration practices.
The testimony comes from the high-profile case brought by Stark & Stark against Uber, where Evan’s clients, McGinty’s, were seriously injured while riding in an Uber but could not sue when they found out their 12-year-old daughter agreed to a terms of services agreement with Uber Eats on their phone. This case has played a pivotal role in highlighting the need for legislative action to prevent companies from using arbitration as a shield to avoid accountability and justice.
The bill’s passage could be a game changer for consumer rights in New Jersey, giving individuals more control over their legal options and access to justice. This bill advanced in a 5-0 vote.
