Spotlight on Mental Health Awareness Month: John Lowenberg, Esq. Serves on the Board of CONTACT of Mercer County

Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, we are proud to highlight the important work being done by CONTACT of Mercer County, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free, confidential emotional support and crisis intervention services. With nearly 50 years of service, CONTACT has been a vital resource for individuals facing emotional distress, loneliness, mental health challenges, and suicidal thoughts in our community.

John Lowenberg, Esq., a board member of CONTACT of Mercer County, is committed to supporting their mission. His dedication helps ensure that individuals in need have access to the essential resources and support services that CONTACT provides.

Some of CONTACT’s key services include:

• Listening Line: A telephone hotline staffed by trained volunteers offering compassionate, nonjudgmental support to individuals facing personal crises, including relationship issues, work stress, or suicidal ideation. This service is available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 609-737-330.
• Chat and Text Support: For those who find it easier to communicate via text or chat, CONTACT offers a platform for confidential support with trained counselors.
• Reassurance Program: Providing daily wellness calls to senior citizens in Mercer County, this program helps reduce loneliness and social isolation. In 2022, nearly 13,000 wellness calls were made.

Additionally, CONTACT offers training programs for individuals interested in becoming crisis counselors. These programs cover essential skills such as active listening, suicide prevention, and mental health first aid, empowering people to make a difference in the lives of others.
