Aredia® Mass Tort (Bisphosphonate)
The bisphosphonate Pamidronate is marketed under the brand name Aredia® by the drug manufacturer Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Aredia® received FDA approval in 1991. Studies show that Aredia® has been most commonly administered intravenously in the treatment of bone metastasis in cancer patients. It has been reported that certain Aredia® users have experienced varying degrees of osteonecrosis of the jaw (most commonly known as ONJ or BONJ).
Currently, claims involving Aredia® have received Mass Tort designation in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County and Multi-District Litigation designation in United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
